I have seen many different opinions on determing whether or Chuck is the main antagonist of Better Call Saul, of course after betraying Jimmy. There are many people who actually agree with Chuck in the sense that they understand why he is undermining Jimmy as some people believe him to be Slippin' Jimmy and nothing else. My personal opinion is that I do believe Chuck is the bad guy, and I'll explain why I think so. Jimmy decided to redeem himself by coming to Albuquerque, turning his life around and becoming an attorney to impress his brother. Chuck is just an egotistical bastard who is jealous of his brother when he truly has no reason to be.

If you do good things for bad reasons, are you a bad person? Season two, which wrapped up on Monday, etched those questions more starkly than before, while always stopping short of telling viewers what to think. This, too, strikes me as an indication of how much more sophisticated Better Call Saul is compared to its wilder predecessor.

Better Call Saul is a series without any heroes. Its cast is comprised of people from various rungs on the morality ladder, with nobody sitting at the top. Even for its likable protagonist, we know how things end up. It asks whether technically immoral deeds are forgiven if done for good reasons, and the opposite for seemingly good deeds done for personal gain.
In a show filled with lovable characters that fans can root for, from Kim Wexler to Nacho Varga, Chuck stands proudly as a reprehensible jerk. Most hatable characters are given some kind of redemption. But Better Call Saul never did that with Chuck.
